He has selected a very nice range of mostly  bright and beautiful paintings to bring from Mbantua Gallery in Alice Springs and hopefully they will help out against the  Melbourne winter!!

These original paintings, measuring 30x30cm, are generally priced between $94 - $190 and painted with acrylics on canvas mostly by aboriginal women of Utopia.

To the right is a painting by a woman named Pansy McLeod which represents a type of grass seed called ntang ngelyerr - kangaroos like to eat this. Greeny Purvis Petyarre, a man of prestige and honour, an aged boss man of Alhalkere country in Utopia passed away at the Alice Springs hospital. I'd like to make this an obituary of sorts rather than give you a simple, albeit respectful, death announcement. So here is a little about Greeny from my personal bank of knowledge. To the right is a Josie Kunoth Petyarre which looks like a starry night sky (but actually represents the conkerberry), and below are two by Loretta Jones Petyarr. I love the contrast of the red and yellow with the white. I'm also a huge fan of her and her work myself!

Kwementyay was one of few young high profile aboriginal artists with what seemed a bright future ahead of her and we pass on our sincerest condolences to her 5 children and family that she leaves behind.

Up bright and early and after making a bit of toast and a cup of tea, I head across to pick up Barry Skipsey. I get there at 6:30am and find some room for an extra eski and his camera in the fully laden Toyota. I actually got everything packed and the vehicle refuelled yesterday which is a rarity for me!

On May 23, 2007 Mbantua Gallery bid for and won Emily Kame Kngwarreye’s Earths Creation at Deutscher-Menzies’ Sydney auction. The price Mbantua Gallery paid was $1,056,000.

Why?? 



The reasons are numerous, simple to us at Mbantua Gallery but perhaps more complex to those who don’t have any experience of traditional aboriginal people in Outback Australia.
